Checking Into Mövenpick Resort Al Marjan Island

A private beachfront chalet, consistently impressive dining, a rooftop bar overlooking Al Marjan Island and enough activities to fill several days. Here's why Mövenpick Resort Al Marjan Island is well worth checking into for your next UAE staycation.

First Impressions

Large hotels aren’t usually known for feeling intimate. With multiple restaurants, pools, activities and hundreds of rooms, it’s easy to assume they will inevitably feel crowded. That was certainly my expectation before arriving at Mövenpick Resort Al Marjan Island. Instead, I left wondering how a resort of this scale managed to create so many moments that felt surprisingly personal and secluded.

That impression set in almost as soon as I arrived. After a two-hour drive from Al Ain, I was warmly welcomed by the team while my luggage was whisked away by buggy towards my chalet. Rather than joining it, I decided to walk through the resort instead. It felt like the best way to get my bearings and take in the surroundings, and despite the June heat, I’m glad I did. The first thing that caught my attention wasn’t the beach waiting in the distance or even the contemporary architecture. It was the landscaping. Mature trees lined almost every pathway and greenery seemed to follow me wherever I went.

Carefully maintained gardens surround much of the resort. Beside many of the trees and shrubbery you’ll find QR codes explaining the different species growing around the property. It’s a detail that many guests might walk straight past, but it’s worth stopping to scan a few of them. It’s a thoughtful detail that says a lot about the care and effort that’s gone into creating such a lush, beautifully maintained space.

As my stay went on, I realised those gardens were doing much more than making the place look beautiful. They created welcome shade from the June sun, attracted birds that became a constant presence throughout the day and helped create pockets of privacy across different parts of the resort.

Al Marjan Beachfront Suite with Private Pool

Although the Mövenpick is expansive, it is not overwhelming. Everything is connected by wide pathways, making it easy to walk between restaurants, the beach and leisure facilities, all the while buggies remain available for anyone who prefers not to. At the end of one of those pathways sat my chalet, with its own pool and direct access to the beach. Within minutes of entering it, I’d already settled into holiday mode.

Mövenpick

The Al Marjan Beachfront Suite with Private Pool is much more than a standard hotel room with an outdoor pool. It is like a self-contained retreat, complete with a spacious living room, dining area and bedroom replete with everything you’d need for a comfortable stay. Large sliding doors opened out from both the living room and bedroom onto the private pool and a pathway beyond led directly to the beach.

As exquisite as the chalet was, I barely thought about the interiors after the first few minutes. Every time I stepped outside, I felt completely cocooned. The pool is surrounded by trees, birds seemed to be chirping from morning until evening and I could barely see another person. More than once, I caught myself thinking that I felt like the only person in the world, despite knowing I was staying in a resort with hundreds of other guests.

I probably spent as much time at the chalet as I did exploring the rest of the resort. I’d head back between activities for a swim, sit by the pool with a coffee before dinner or just spend some time outside listening to the birds. It became one of my favourite parts of the entire stay.

Spoiler alert! Before I delve into everything else I experienced, it’s worth mentioning one of the most indelible memories of my stay, which came right at the end. After a day spent making the most of everything the resort had to offer, I was tempted to skip one final swim and simply call it a night. I was tired, the sun was beginning to set and I’d already spent plenty of time in the pool over the previous two days. Thankfully, I talked myself out of it.

That golden-hour swim is undoubtedly the most cherished memory of the entire trip. It wasn’t part of the itinerary, there was no organised activity taking place and nothing particularly extraordinary was happening. I wasn’t even swimming by that point. I found myself sitting on one of the pool steps, submerged in the water, watching the sky slowly change colour as the light filtered through the trees. The birds, which had been a constant soundtrack throughout my stay, were still chirping away and the water was the perfect temperature after a hot day. I remember sitting there thinking I could happily stay exactly where I was for another couple of hours.

The Floating Breakfast

The following morning brought one of the resort’s signature experiences I’d been looking forward to most: a floating breakfast served directly in the private pool.

The arrangements had actually started the night before, when the team got in touch to ask what time I’d like it delivered. I was given a menu to choose from, with different breakfast options, along with my preferred coffee and juice. I settled on 8:30am and right on time, two members of staff arrived carrying a beautiful heart-shaped floating tray. They carefully set everything up at the edge of the pool before gently pushing it onto the water, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a breakfast presented quite so beautifully.

Naturally, I spent the next 20 minutes photographing and filming it from every possible angle before I finally let myself enjoy it. While floating breakfasts have become something of a luxury staycation staple, this one wasn’t just beautiful to look at. The food itself was every bit as impressive. Fresh fruit, pastries, smoked salmon, bagels, eggs, sausages, juice and coffee made for a generous spread that easily lived up to the presentation.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I did not want to get out of the pool because I could have easily spent two, three more hours just slowly savouring my breakfast and lounging around. Unfortunately, I had to drag myself out because my next experience was waiting and it so happened to be a bespoke spa treatment.

Citrine Day Spa

My next stop was the Citrine Day Spa and after spending the morning floating in the pool, it felt like the perfect way to continue the day. Before the treatment began, my therapist sat down with me for a short consultation to understand exactly what I wanted to get out of the massage, allowing the experience to be tailored to my preferences rather than following a one size fits all approach. Using a blend of saffron and sandalwood oils, the 60-minute bespoke massage focused on easing muscle tension while encouraging complete relaxation..

Dining Around Mövenpick

A fact that quickly became apparent over the course of the stay was just how consistently good the food was. I found myself eating at several different venues and each had its own personality while maintaining the same standard of quality. Lunch at Ula was my first introduction to the resort’s food offering, and it set the bar high.

Positioned beside the beach with views across the adults-only pool, the restaurant embraces a relaxed coastal aesthetic. Warm wood finishes with rattan detailing and natural light cascading in from all around, while both indoor and outdoor seating make the most of the beachfront location. At one point, a bird casually flew into the restaurant before making itself comfortable nearby, which somehow felt completely fitting given how connected the entire resort feels to its surroundings. The menu delivered just as well as the setting.

The honey bread with whipped feta and macadamia nuts was served first and deserves a mention of its own because I haven’t stopped thinking about it. It sounds like an unusual combination, but somehow it just works. The sweetness of the bread, the saltiness of the whipped feta and the crunch from the macadamias came together so well that I found myself wishing there was more of it. The grilled prawns were equally enjoyable. Perfectly cooked with just the right amount of spice.

If there was one course that completely stole the show, it was dessert. I ordered the chocolate terrine, which arrived dusted with coffee powder that added a lovely caffeinated kick. Rich, fudgey and beautifully balanced, it delivered all the indulgence of a chocolate dessert without being overly sweet. It also marked the beginning of what became a very enjoyable pattern throughout my stay, consistently excellent desserts.

Whether I was dining at Ula, enjoying afternoon tea or making my way through the buffet at The Market, the pastry selection was remarkable throughout and that’s saying something as a person who does not have any semblance of a sweet tooth.

I visited The Market several times throughout my stay for both lunch and dinner, which gave me a good opportunity to see how much the buffet changed between services. Rather than repeating the same dishes throughout the day, there was enough variety to make each visit feel worthwhile, particularly if you’re staying for more than one night.

Among the savoury dishes, the beef brisket with mushroom sauce was a clear standout. Tender and packed with flavour, it immediately became my favourite savoury dish of the trip. Other highlights included the Seafood Thermidor, fish confit, herb-marinated chicken and Dal Makhni. Then there were the aforementioned desserts. The warm, gooey chocolate pudding caught my attention before I even reached the counter thanks to the rich aroma filling that section of the restaurant. Alongside it sat pistachio mousse, apple vanilla meringue, lemon tart and lemon peach sablé, all beautifully presented and every bit as enjoyable as they looked. By this point, I had started looking forward to dessert almost as much as the main meal, which again, isn’t something you’ll ever normally hear me say.

Afternoon Tea

The same attention to detail continued at MoCa, the resort’s bright and airy lobby lounge, where I experienced afternoon tea. If you assume afternoon tea will amount to a few finger sandwiches and a couple of pastries, think again. Designed for two, the spread was incredibly generous, with enough food to comfortably satisfy two hungry adults.

The savoury selection included bagels, focaccia sandwiches and bruschetta with fresh fruit, all beautifully prepared, but by this point you can probably guess where my attention drifted. Straight back to the desserts.

The lemon tart was beautifully balanced, the caramel-topped choux pastry was every bit as enjoyable as it looked, and the warm lava cake was the perfect way to finish the afternoon. By now, I wasn’t even surprised. Dessert had become one of the resort’s greatest strengths, and MoCa continued that streak effortlessly.

After eating across several different venues, I realised what had impressed me most wasn’t a single signature dish. It was the consistency. Every restaurant felt like it belonged to the same resort while still offering its own identity, and nowhere did the quality drop.

Sundowner Experience

One experience I wouldn’t skip is the resort’s sundowner at Neo Sky Bar, perched on the tenth floor with panoramic views across Mövenpick Resort Al Marjan Island and the surrounding coastline. After spending the day at ground level, seeing the entire resort from above was a completely different experience. From up there, you really appreciate the scale of the property and how seamlessly everything flows together, making it one of the best vantage points on the property.

I particularly appreciated how much space had been left between the seating areas. Rather than trying to fit as many tables as possible onto the rooftop, the layout gives everyone room to enjoy the view.

Resort Activities

Even after two days, I still felt as though I’d only scratched the surface. Beyond the restaurants and spa, Mövenpick is home to Ras Al Khaimah’s largest floating water park, along with water sports, cycling, mini golf, an arcade, multiple swimming pools and direct beach access. You could easily spend days here and still have plenty left to experience.

Admittedly, I gave the floating water park a miss. Between the heat and a packed itinerary, the thought of tackling an inflatable obstacle course wasn’t particularly appealing, especially when my private pool was only a short walk away. I have no regrets. But if you’re travelling with children, teenagers or simply enjoy a more active holiday, it’s an impressive addition that sets the resort apart from many others in Ras Al Khaimah.

The Verdict

One night or even a weekend at Mövenpick Resort Al Marjan Island is definitely not enough. Not because you’ll struggle to fit in the floating breakfast, the spa, the restaurants or the sundowner experience, although you probably will. It’s because you’ll inevitably find yourself spending far more time in your chalet than you planned.

I certainly did. Every time I headed back for a quick swim or a coffee by the pool, another hour seemed to disappear. Before I knew it, it was time to head off to my next activity, and by the end of the trip there were still experiences I hadn’t managed to fit in.

For me, that’s the biggest compliment I can pay the resort. It wasn’t any one experience that made the stay memorable. It was everything in between. The extra half hour by the pool before dinner. A coffee outside the chalet. Sitting in the water long after I’d finished swimming. Those were the moments that stayed with me just as much as the experiences on the itinerary.
