Terra Reopens in Dubai with Bold New Look and Art Exhibition Featuring Chafic Mekawi

Art meets Mediterranean cuisine as Terra reopens in Dubai with creative flair.

Terra reopens in Dubai

After a short three-week break, Terra reopens its doors in Al Thanya — and it’s returned with more than just a facelift.

The neighbourhood favourite, known for its Mediterranean-inspired dishes and down-to-earth vibe, is back with a beautifully refreshed interior and an immersive new art exhibition featuring homegrown talent, Chafic Mekawi.

If you’ve dined at Terra before, you’ll feel the same warm, leafy energy — but with a noticeable creative spark. This time around, it’s not just the menu that’s worth savouring.

Thanks to a collaboration with Pinkum Collection, the eatery is doubling as a gallery space, celebrating regional artistry in an everyday setting.

A Local Favourite with a New Look and Feel

When Terra reopens, it does so with intention. Designed by Dubai’s own Bone Studio, the space has stayed true to its earthy, natural aesthetic, while embracing a bolder, more layered design.

Think tactile materials, rich textures, and a nursery of over 100 plants — all coming together to complement the energy of Mekawi’s digital artworks that now grace the walls.

From the moment you walk in, it’s clear that this is more than just a restaurant.

Terra’s always been a space where good food and good people come together — and now it’s also where thoughtful art enters the conversation.

Meet the Artist: Chafic Mekawi Terra reopens in Dubai

The spotlight is firmly on Chafic Mekawi, a Canadian-Lebanese artist based in Dubai, whose work blends architecture, digital design, and storytelling. His pieces delve into Arab identity, heritage, symbolism and the future, all through a lens shaped by his upbringing between Beirut and the UAE.

Curated by Margo Castro, founder of the Pinkum Collection, the exhibition brings together five of Mekawi’s works — each rich in symbolism and deeply rooted in Gulf culture.

Here’s a taste of what’s on display:

  • A Window to the Sea – An oriental rug becomes a spiritual gateway to identity and the infinite.
  • Carpet Court – A surreal mix of sport and tradition, where tennis meets tapestry.
  • Anatomy of a Nakhl – A sculptural tribute to the date palm, strong and rooted.
  • Carpet Kintsugi (I & II) – Inspired by the Japanese art of mending with gold, these pieces explore generational love, healing, and the beauty in imperfection.

“Art usually lives in still, quiet spaces,” Mekawi shares. “But Terra invites movement, conversation, connection. That’s where life happens — and that’s where I want my work to be experienced.”

The art exhibition will remain at Terra throughout the summer, so there’s plenty of time to take it all in — one bite and one brushstroke at a time.
