The Vibe

This isn’t your average daytime affair. Barbossa’s brunch completely skips the routine and dives straight into a full-scale, three-hour fiesta where genuinely brilliant modern Mexican cuisine meets an unstoppable ’80s and ’90s throwback soundtrack. The kind of easy, vibrant chaos that makes you forget how tired you were just the day before. The minute you walk in, the place is engineered to pull you out of your sleepy work-week fog and straight into a spontaneous dance party.
Brunch Menu

Things start with a spread of sharing appetisers that come one after another in quick succession. The tableside guac with tortilla chips is absolute perfection and probably the best thing to snack on while you wait for the rest of the table to fill up.
I loved the contrasts, the Avocado Mango Salad was light and bright against the richer, perfectly balanced crunch of the Chicken Flautas. A serious shout-out goes to the Burrata Chimichurri, where the soft, mild cheese was a fantastic, creamy foil for the sharp tomatillo and herbs. I love a sea bass ceviche and this one was flawless. Clean, zesty flavours with just the right hit of heat that makes you want to finish the bowl. But my absolute, undisputed favourite though? The Chilaquiles. I’m not even slightly ashamed to admit I single-handedly polished off the entire plate myself. That savoury, cheesy, saucy crunch was everything.

My choice for the main course was the Eight-Spice Salmon, which was cooked perfectly, with soft insides and those lovely charred edges. The accompanying sauce was wonderfully rich, which was cut through perfectly by the acidity of the lemon. But the real winner, was the El Pollo Loco fried baby chicken. Seriously, is there any dish more synonymous with feel-good comfort than a good old fried chicken? The crispy, succulent chicken paired with the smoky sauce and pickled red chilli and jalapeno just took things to another level.

The feast ends with beautifully decadent desserts. I’m talking classics executed perfectly. The Churros arrive hot off the press, crispy and warm with rich Cajeta and Nutella sauce. While the Homemade Tres Leches cake is the real deal, with a moist sponge absolutely saturated with a silky, creamy milk mixture. It’s the perfect cool-down and a killer way to finish the meal.
The Verdict
The Barbossa Saturday Brunch is a triumph of fun, great food and high-octane energy. A note of caution, if you prefer a tranquil, fine-dining experience, this might not be your scene. Barbossa is loud, proud, and unapologetically a party. If you’re after an easy, upbeat weekend plan with good Latin flavours and a crowd that likes to celebrate, it’s worth booking a table.
