Hu Bing unveiled the third season of HUBING SELECTS at London Fashion Week with URBAN GRACE: Leather & Light, a collection moving between three imagined eras: 1930, 2030 and 3030.
Leather became the collection’s defining material, shifting from soft matte finishes paired with silk and gauze to sculptural black tailoring, before taking on a futuristic, metallic quality in the final chapter.
At the centre of the presentation was Hu Bing’s “Finishing in China” proposition, which explores the craftsmanship and technical expertise involved in bringing a garment to its final form.
“Finishing in China is not a claim about where materials originate. It is about who finishes the work — Chinese craft and supply chains turning design into garments the world can see, wear and buy.”
Developed through Haining’s leather supply chain in Zhejiang, the collection placed Chinese craftsmanship firmly within the creative process, rather than treating production as something separate from design.
The show itself mirrored the collection’s movement through time, with live piano from Chinese pianist Yangyang Ruan, shifting light and ambient sound creating a cinematic journey between Shanghai and London, memory and speculation.
Founded in 2024, HUBING SELECTS was created to bring Asian designers and Chinese creative talent onto international stages. For Hu Bing, the next chapter is about looking beyond personal representation and towards the generation coming next.
“Ten years was a threshold; the eleventh marks a new beginning. In the next decade, I want to represent Chinese craft, Chinese supply chains, Chinese brands and the young designers walking this road with me.”
With URBAN GRACE, that vision takes shape through leather, light and a dialogue between heritage and the future.
