Toyota has unveiled a major update to its popular subcompact crossover, the Aygo X, transforming it into what the manufacturer claims is the cleanest non-plug-in car in Europe. With a sleek new design, a hybrid-only powertrain, and a host of modern features, the 2025 Aygo X redefines urban mobility.
A Cleaner, More Powerful Hybrid
The standout feature of the new Aygo X is its hybrid powertrain, which pairs a 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine with an electric motor. This setup delivers a combined 116 horsepower and 104 lb-ft of torque—an impressive 44 hp increase over the previous combustion-only model. Despite the power boost, the Aygo X emits just 86 grams of CO₂ per kilometre, making it even cleaner than the Yaris Hybrid at 86g/km.
Toyota has extended the front overhang on the new Aygo X by nearly three inches to accommodate the larger engine. However, thanks to a clever new wraparound bumper design, the extension is barely noticeable. The new engine also brings a dramatic improvement in performance, with the car now reaching 0–100 km/h in under 10 seconds—down from a sluggish 15.5 seconds in the previous model.

Design and Comfort Upgrades
The 2025 Aygo X features a sharper, more refined exterior and a completely redesigned interior. The drive is significantly quieter and smoother, and now supports over-the-air software updates. Standard safety features have been expanded, enhancing its appeal for both city dwellers and rental fleets.
Buyers can also opt for a canvas roof that offers a convertible-like experience, while the 231-litre boot provides ample space for everyday errands. The car comes standard with 17-inch wheels, with 18-inch options also available.
The GR Sport Trim
For those who prefer a sportier drive, Toyota is offering the GR Sport trim. This version features a unique grille, exclusive 18-inch wheels, and sport-tuned suspension and steering. These enhancements reduce body roll and improve handling, making the Aygo X more engaging behind the wheel.

Greener Manufacturing
Throughout the production phase, Toyota has focused on sustainability. The updated Aygo X has an 18% lower carbon footprint compared to its predecessor. The Czech-based factory where the car is now built uses a significant amount of renewable energy and benefits from improved logistics.
With the addition of the hybrid system, CVT transmission, and enhanced safety features, the Aygo X’s starting price is expected to rise above the current $19,400 price tag—potentially making it more expensive than some fully electric cars.
