Review: Is the Aston Martin DBX707 the “ultimate ultra-luxury Super-SUV”?

The British brand has produced an SUV that rivals many sports cars for speed and handling.

I will avoid any references to James Bond (the secret agent’s favourite car is an Aston Martin) as he probably wouldn’t drive an SUV. But if he got behind the wheel of the British brand’s super sporty SUV, he might change his mind. A lot of sports car enthusiasts shared similar views – one would never be seen in an SUV, and then they are suddenly converted after driving one from brands like Lamborghini, Porsche and Aston Martin. Never judge a book by its cover, they say.

Aston Martin calls its DBX707 the “ultimate ultra-luxury Super-SUV”. It wanted to keep the same driving experience of its supercars (think the DB9, Vantage etc) but within an SUV shape, while also making sure it stayed luxurious. Was that too ambitious? To look at, the DBX707 is a compact-looking SUV, nowhere near the bulky beasts that dominate Dubai’s roads. Its smaller size and weight obviously work in its favour when it comes to speed. Look closely and you will see these sporty aspirations.

A larger grille, aggressive front splitter, and quad tailpipes mean it’s not shy about announcing its sporty presence. The silhouette is familiar Aston – balanced, elegant and understated – but with the hint of rebellion. The model I test drove had a menacing look about it with its dark satin chrome, new louvred bonnet blades and glossy black side sills and bumpers. Plus bright yellow carbon ceramic brakes (as standard).

The sporty theme continues inside with sport seats fitted as standard (Comfort seats are available as a no-cost option). All seat options come with 16-way electric adjustment plus embroidered Aston Martin wings on the headrest to remind you of the prestigious brand. As with the exterior, the DBX707’s interior features plenty of dark chrome finishes. Bright chrome and carbon fibre can be specified as an option.

Elegant beast

At the heart of the DBX707 is Aston Martin’s reworked 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, now dialled up to a thundering 707PS and 900Nm of torque. Numbers are one thing, but it’s how they’re delivered that sets this car apart. A new nine-speed wet-clutch gearbox makes shifts sharper and more direct, giving the driver that sports-car immediacy that’s often missing in luxury SUVs. The result? A 0–100 kph time of just 3.3 seconds – enough to embarrass more than a few supercars.

Aston Martin’s engineers have treated the DBX707 like a race car in SUV clothing. It shocked me just how fast it can go, and with such confident handling. The drive modes include GT, Sport, Sport+, and Individual which are fun to play around with and see how the car changes in each mode. Push the active exhaust button, and it opens up the exhaust valves, letting the V8’s soundtrack flow more freely. This gives the car a louder, more aggressive exhaust note – especially noticeable on start-up and under acceleration. It’s pretty addictive to be honest.

The DBX707 isn’t just the fastest Aston Martin SUV – it’s also the most complete. It blends ferocious power with real driver engagement, something too many rivals confuse with brute force. Where others shout, the DBX707 whispers, offering the rare combination of elegance, aggression, and everyday usability. Aston Martin calls it the “ultimate ultra-luxury Super-SUV.” For once, the hype feels justified.
