In the heart of Education City, Qatar Foundation is set to inaugurate Lawh Wa Qalam: M. F. Husain Museum on 28 November 2025. Conceived as both an artistic sanctuary and a site for learning, the museum will celebrate the genius of M. F. Husain, a pioneer of modern Indian art whose influence transcends geography and generations.

The museum is far more than a gallery. It is an immersive narrative of Husain’s creative journey, inviting visitors to step into the mind of a man whose canvases danced with colour, rhythm, and philosophical depth. Through a blend of multimedia storytelling and diverse art forms, including painting, film, tapestry, photography, and poetry, the museum brings Husain’s legacy vividly to life, fostering curiosity and dialogue among audiences in Qatar and beyond.

Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation, personally commissioned Husain to create a series of paintings inspired by Arab civilisation. Before his passing, the artist completed more than 35 works, many of which will take pride of place within the new museum. Each piece offers a glimpse into his fascination with the Arab world, his deep reverence for culture, and his ability to weave universal narratives from local heritage.

The architecture of Lawh Wa Qalam reflects Husain’s own vision. The building’s form originates from a sketch he drew, conceptualising a structure that would stand as both art and architecture. Its design embodies the artist’s belief that creativity should transcend boundaries, merging disciplines and ideas into a seamless whole.
With more than one hundred public artworks already displayed across Education City, Lawh Wa Qalam represents the next chapter in Qatar Foundation’s cultural narrative. It is a space where art and intellect meet, where the spirit of creativity serves as a bridge between cultures, and where one man’s artistic odyssey continues to inspire a region.
Further details regarding visiting hours and programming will be announced closer to the museum’s public opening in November.
