Piaget’s Shapes of Extraleganza is a Daring Tribute to Artistic Heritage

Where high jewellery meets avant-garde design and timeless innovation

The iconic Swiss luxury Maison, Piaget, has once again redefined the boundaries of high jewellery with the unveiling of its latest collection, Shapes of Extraleganza. This vibrant and avant-garde series marks the second chapter in a trilogy that began with Essence of Extraleganza, continuing Piaget’s exploration of its creative roots in the 1960s and ’70s.

A Celebration of Artistic Legacy

At the heart of Shapes of Extraleganza lies Piaget’s enduring connection to the world of art and design. The collection pays homage to the Maison’s historic collaborations with legendary figures such as Salvador Dalí and Andy Warhol – relationships born from Yves Piaget’s personal friendships and the dynamic cultural milieu of the Piaget Society.

These artistic alliances, combined with the ingenuity of Piaget’s creative studio and the brilliance of watch designer Jean-Claude Gueit, elevated jewellery to a new realm of artistic expression. The 1969 launch of Piaget’s 21st-century collection of jewellery watches captured the spirit of an era defined by social upheaval and creative freedom – a spirit that pulses through its latest collection.

Sculptural Sophistication and Playful Elegance

Comprising 51 unique creations, the 2025 High Jewellery collection is a masterclass in form, texture, and colour. It features a dynamic interplay of geometric and organic shapes – squares, triangles, zigzags, waves, and circles – arranged in sculptural compositions that blend fluidity with precision. The designs draw inspiration from Pop Art, Op Art, and the psychedelic patterns of 1970s fashion, creating a joyful fusion of high jewellery and pop culture.

Each suite within the collection tells a distinct artistic story, merging past and present with Piaget’s signature glimpse into the future. Watches are seamlessly integrated into most sets, showcasing the Maison’s dual mastery of Haute Horlogerie and High Jewellery.

The collection’s standout pieces include the Kaleidoscope Lights suite, which features striped mosaics crafted from ornamental stones like rhodochrosite, sugilite, and verdite, arranged in dramatic collars and sun-ray dial watches. The Flowing Curves suite channels the 1970s “back-to-nature” movement with rare black opals set in hand-hammered white gold, introducing a new goldsmithing technique from Piaget’s House of Gold.

In the Wave Illusion suite, red and orangey-pink spinels evoke the playful geometry of the Memphis movement, while the Curved Artistry suite dazzles with sun-yellow sapphires and a secret ring watch hidden beneath a cabochon aquamarine. Hypnotic Colombian emeralds bring glamour to the Gleaming Shapes and Arty Pop suites, and the Joyful Twirls cuff watches feature silk-like bracelets adorned with moody blue sapphires and fiery spessartite garnets, powered by Piaget’s ultra-thin self-winding movement.

Art Meets Time

The crown jewel of the collection is Endless Motion, a table clock conceived as a mobile sculpture. Created in collaboration with French artist Alex Palenski, this kinetic masterpiece features quivering branches set with ornamental stones, echoing lightning flashes of black opal. It embodies Piaget’s rebellious spirit and its commitment to art in motion.
