There’s something almost cinematic about arriving in Salalah. The sea breeze, the scent of frankincense in the air, and the warm Omani welcome set the tone for what would become a thoroughly indulgent escape at Al Baleed Resort Salalah by Anantara
A Villa That Redefines Privacy and Comfort
We checked into a One Bedroom Garden View Pool Villa, and from the moment the door opened, it was clear this wasn’t just a room; it was a retreat. The villa is designed with privacy in mind, wrapped in a lush, high-walled garden where tropical greenery surrounds your very own pool. Inside, the décor strikes that perfect balance between understated luxury and local charm, with soft neutral tones, Omani design touches, and contemporary furnishings that feel effortlessly stylish.

The bed was genuinely one of the most comfortable I’ve ever slept in, and little details like pillow menus and mood lighting added a thoughtful touch. The bathroom was a standout in its own right: a deep standalone tub, double vanities, and a walk-in rain shower that felt like stepping into a spa. It was easy to spend an entire afternoon just enjoying the villa, floating in the pool with a book and a fresh fruit platter.

Flavours That Travel the World
Dining at Al Baleed is an experience in itself. Mekong, the resort’s Asian restaurant, served up one of the best Thai green curries I’ve ever had outside of Bangkok. The menu journeys through Vietnam, Thailand and China with confidence and authenticity, paired with a setting that’s smart yet relaxed.

Mornings began at Sakalan, where the breakfast buffet was as generous as it was varied, with fresh juices, flaky pastries, eggs cooked to order, and plenty of local touches like dates and honeycomb. On sunnier afternoons, we lunched at Al Mina, with its breezy Mediterranean vibe. A seafood risotto enjoyed with our toes in the sand and the sea shimmering just metres away was pure bliss.

But the real culinary highlight was the Designer Dining experience on the beach. A private table set under the stars, a personal butler, and a tailor-made menu curated with the chef. It was effortlessly romantic, and every bite was a celebration of both local and international flavours.

Exploring the Cultural Heart of Dhofar
Of course, no visit to Salalah would be complete without stepping beyond the resort. The East Side Tour gave us a fascinating window into the region’s culture and natural beauty. We wandered through banana and papaya groves, marvelled at the Al Baleed Archaeological Park, and learnt about Oman’s rich trading history at the Museum of the Land of Frankincense. Visits to the Sultan Grand Mosque and the bustling Al Husn Souq added depth and authenticity to the trip. It was a rare mix of laid-back luxury and genuine cultural immersion.

Time to Unwind
Back at the resort, relaxation came easily. Whether lounging beside the infinity pool or enjoying the Anantara Signature Massage at the spa (an hour of pure, aromatic bliss), everything felt unhurried and peaceful. The staff were consistently warm and intuitive. Never overbearing, always gracious.
Al Baleed Resort Salalah by Anantara manages to do something rare. It offers polished, world-class hospitality while still staying deeply connected to its surroundings. Whether you’re after sunshine and seclusion, culinary adventures or cultural discovery, this resort offers it all with quiet confidence. It’s not often a hotel stay feels like a true journey, but this one absolutely did.
