Meet Nate Dass, Child Star turned Actor and Aspiring Musician

Embarking on a journey from the lively sets of CBBC to the captivating world of Hollyoaks, Nate’s career trajectory has been nothing short of exhilarating. In an exclusive interview with The Zenith Magazine, Nate shares insights into his experiences, challenges, and aspirations as an actor, shedding light on his remarkable journey thus far.

Reflecting on his transition from CBBC to Hollyoaks, Nate admits that while there weren’t any distinct ‘challenges’, the shift marked a significant evolution in his craft. “Playing a more mature role is definitely a completely different skill,” he notes. “It’s like switching gears from always smiling and exuding energy on a younger show like Almost Never.”

Indeed, his stint on Almost Never provided a remarkable platform and a hands-on learning experience akin to a drama school. “Working with experienced directors, actors, and crew members from a young age felt like a replacement for a drama school, which I never attended,” Nate acknowledges. “It equipped me with invaluable experience and insights into the workings of a professional environment.”

When it comes to portraying his character Dillon, Nate finds solace in embracing the stark differences between himself and the role. “I’m not much like Dillon at all, and that’s precisely what drew me to the character,” he reveals. “As an actor, living new, exciting lives through different personas is where the true essence of the craft lies.”

Recalling memorable moments on set, Nate chuckles as he recounts an incident during filming where a co-star’s head accidentally hit the car door. “It’s always amusing when something goes slightly awry during a take,” he chuckles.

For Nate, the true reward lies in witnessing the culmination of his hard work on screen and receiving positive feedback from viewers. “Watching the final product and seeing it come to life is always a surreal experience,” he muses. “And knowing that viewers appreciate your efforts is incredibly gratifying.”

Unveiling his approach to acting, Nate emphasises the importance of understanding his character’s motives and emotions in every scene. “Giving them purpose and meaning behind every action helps to drive the character forward,” he explains. “Being directly involved in my character’s development through discussions with the team at Hollyoaks has been immensely beneficial.”

Beyond acting, Nate’s passion for music has taken centre stage, leading him to pursue a career as a duo with fellow Almost Never alum Oakley. “Living together during Almost Never ignited our shared passion for music,” Nate shares. “We’re currently writing, recording, and producing music with hopes of releasing and touring in the near future.”

Reflecting on his journey, Nate acknowledges the essentials every young performer needs, from headshots to supportive agents and additional skills. “Having a background in singing, dancing, and studying multiple instruments has certainly been advantageous,” he affirms.

In his downtime, Nate indulges in producing music, creating content on social media, and pursuing his passion for MMA and football. “I’m also secretly a huge Marvel fan,” he confesses with a grin.

As for the future, Nate remains focused on his role in Hollyoaks while harbouring ambitions for a full-fledged music career. “I’m enjoying every moment on Hollyoaks, but I’m eager to explore more opportunities in music and acting,” he concludes. “The journey ahead is filled with endless possibilities, and I can’t wait to see where it takes me.”
