There was a time when luxury car manufacturers built cars, and little else.
Today, they are designing hotels, private residences and even entire neighbourhoods. Yet, while many branded residences simply borrow a logo, N°001 Minami Aoyama takes a different approach. This is not a building with an Aston Martin badge on the door. It is a home conceived through the lens of automotive design, where every space reflects the marque’s philosophy of craftsmanship, proportion and timeless elegance.
Located in Tokyo’s prestigious Omotesandō district, the four-storey private residence is Aston Martin’s first bespoke home in Asia, created in partnership with Japanese luxury developer VIBROA. More importantly, it marks a new chapter for the British marque – one in which the principles behind its grand tourers are translated into architecture.
Where the Garage Becomes a Gallery
The most remarkable room in the house is not the kitchen or the principal suite.
It is the garage.
Rather than hiding the owner’s vehicles behind closed doors, Aston Martin has transformed the automotive gallery into the centrepiece of the home. Two cars sit beneath a sculptural metal ceiling, illuminated like works of art. Glass partitions allow them to be admired from the adjoining lounge, blurring the boundary between transportation and sculpture.
It is an idea that feels distinctly Japanese.
In a city where space is precious and design is intentional, every square metre must earn its place. Here, the motor car is not tucked away as a practical necessity; it becomes part of the architecture itself.
Inspired by Tokyo
The residence avoids the temptation to impose a British aesthetic on Japan. Instead, Aston Martin’s designers have embraced the character of Minami Aoyama, drawing inspiration from the district’s contemporary architecture, craftsmanship and appreciation for restraint.
A façade of vertical metal fins filters light throughout the day, creating changing shadows while offering privacy from the street. Inside, a folded steel staircase recalls the precision of Japanese origami, while a private spa features natural Hinoki timber and an outdoor onsen overlooking the city skyline.
The journey through the house is equally considered. Darker materials at the lower levels gradually transition to lighter finishes towards the rooftop terrace, subtly reinforcing the movement from sanctuary to skyline. It is storytelling through architecture rather than decoration.
A New Definition of Luxury
What makes N°001 Minami Aoyama remarkable is not simply its address or amenities.
It is the way Aston Martin has translated the language of a motor car into a home.
Precision becomes proportion.
Performance becomes flow.
Craftsmanship becomes atmosphere.
Throughout the residence, bespoke furniture, Italian cabinetry, integrated Bowers & Wilkins audio and carefully selected materials create an environment that feels cohesive rather than curated. Nothing competes for attention; every detail serves the whole.
More Than a Residence
N°001 Minami Aoyama represents more than Aston Martin’s expansion into real estate.
It reflects a broader shift in luxury itself.
Today’s most influential brands are no longer defined solely by the products they create, but by the worlds they build around them. Clients are no longer buying a car, a watch or a home in isolation; they are investing in a philosophy of living.
For Aston Martin, that philosophy is one of quiet confidence, exceptional craftsmanship and enduring design.
At N°001 Minami Aoyama, those values are no longer parked in the driveway.
They have become the foundation of the home itself.
