Tucked away in Dubai Sports City, it’s the sort of place that doesn’t feel the need to shout to get your attention. Instead, it leans into that old-school Italian philosophy, good food, better company, and a table that invites you to stay for “just one more” course. I dropped in on a Saturday afternoon with two dear friends of mine, and we quickly realised this wasn’t going to be a quick bite, it was a proper session.
The Ambience
The restaurant exuded an “elegant yet cozy” ambience, being polished enough for an intimate date night however relaxed enough that you aren’t worried about being a bit too loud with your friends. It’s got that easy-going warmth where the staff make you feel like a regular before you’ve even seen the menu.

The Food
We went straight for the à la carte, and because sharing is the only right way to do Italian, we turned our starters into a bit of a feast. There was the Burrata, creamy, classic, and spiked with truffle oil, and a very silky Veal Carpaccio. But the real curveball was the Cauliflower Carpaccio with parmesan and more truffle oil. I’ll be honest, I didn’t think I’d ever describe cauliflower as “delightful” but here we are. It was thin, bright, and genuinely clever cooking.
To keep things from getting too heavy too fast, we tucked into the octopus and potato salad. It was a winner, properly succulent octopus with a sharp lemon dressing that cut through the richness of the earlier plates. Then came the “carb” portion of the afternoon. We started with a Stracciatella pizza, which was exactly what you want from a wood-fired oven: a thin, crisp base, a hit of peppery arugula, and that lovely, milky cheese.
The pasta course felt a bit more like a performance. The Spaghetti Aglio e Olio was punchy yet exquisite, however the Penne al Pomodoro was the star of the show. They served it to the three of us table-side, a nice little bit of theatre that made a simple dish feel like a bit of an event. For the mains, we kept it classic with Breaded Veal Milanese and chicken cutlets. Nothing ground-breaking here, just honest, crispy comfort food that did exactly what it said on the tin.
We finished with their signature Tiramisu Moderno. It’s a generous portion, so if there’s a few of you, it’s the perfect one-spoon-each situation to wrap things up.
The Verdict
LaFamiglia isn’t trying to reinvent the wheel, and that’s why it works. It’s an easy, unpretentious spot that nails the basics: great flavours, a bit of table-side flair, and a setting that encourages you to talk to the people you’re with. If you’re after a Saturday lunch that feels like a proper escape without the airport faff, this is a very safe bet.
