Dubai is a city that spoils its residents and visitors with endless dining options, especially when it comes to roast dinners. How many of you spend most of your Sundays deciding on which roast dinner to try next? Well, bookmark this – not only is it bursting with flavours, but it’s also a great deal too.
A piece of the Caribbean finds its home in Souk Al Manzil – Ting Irie, a popular spot renowned for its lively Saturday brunch, The Dutty Wine, held every Saturday. However, on a much more relaxed Sunday, Ting Irie unveils a roast dinner menu that combines traditional classics with innovative twists. There’s no shortage of choices.
Among the standout options that should undoubtedly be on your radar is the Ting Irie Roast Dinner. Coming from a Caribbean background, Sunday dinners were a festive affair – a mix of diverse dishes and vibrant music. Ting Irie’s Roast Dinner, with its Jamaican twist on the classic English roast, resonates with the soulful culinary traditions of my upbringing, creating a nostalgic and flavoursome experience in Dubai.
I recently had the pleasure of exploring Ting Irie’s impressive take on the traditional roast dinner, customer service, ambience, and, of course, the food.
A Feast of Jamaican Delights
While the Reggae Brunch is a celebration of Jamaican cuisine, Ting Irie’s impressive take on the traditional roast dinner demands attention. A classic roast typically comprises roasted meat, often beef, chicken, or lamb, accompanied by roasted vegetables, gravy, and Yorkshire pudding. In the context of Ting Irie’s Jamaican flair, the traditional roast dinner takes on a Caribbean seasoned twist.
The menu pays homage to traditional Jamaican dishes while infusing modern twists and presentation styles, Ting Irie’s Reggae Roast captures the essence of Jamaican fare. Priced at AED 195 per person excluding VAT, the experience includes 1 main course, 2 side dishes, 1 dessert, and 3 beverages – a brilliant Sunday deal, one to be enjoyed with friends for a perfect end of week catch-up.
The menu is pretty vast, choosing from T-Bone, Ribeye, and Tenderloin steaks, along with tempting offerings like Short Ribs, Lamb Chops, Beef Brisket and the shareable Tomahawk. Chicken lovers can feast on Jerk Chicken, Lemon Herbs Flattened Chicken Breast and English Roast Chicken, while seafood enthusiasts can enjoy delights such as Jerky Tiger Shrimps and Sea Bass Fillet.
Complementing the main courses are island-inspired side dishes, including Roasted Plantain, Rice N’ Peas, Coconut Rice, Yorkshire Pudding, Potato Salad with Corn, Sweet or Regular Mashed Potato, Roast Potato and Asparagus, Corn on The Cob, and Carrots. We opted for the Roasted Plantain and Rice N’ Peas – and we haven’t stopped thinking about it since, ha! Dessert includes sweet plantain, chocolate, and coconut stuffed Jamaican Sweet Patties served with homemade ice cream.
Have you truly experienced Ting Irie if you haven’t indulged in their signature punches – the fruit punch (mocktail) or the rum punch (cocktail)? However, recognizing that these may not suit everyone’s taste, Ting Irie also provides a diverse selection of drinks, including a carefully curated assortment of cocktails, wines, beers, and refreshing mocktails.
Island Vibes and Laid-Back Charm
As you enter, the warmth of Jamaica envelops you instantly. The walls are adorned with murals of Bob Marley, alongside quirky steel teapots that my Caribbean grandmother surely owns, and long bamboo acts as dividers. It’s a carefully curated art scene. Ting Irie’s interior design strikes a perfect balance between contemporary chic and rustic charm. The vibrant murals and reggae-inspired artwork, coupled with the use of natural materials, transport diners to the heart of Jamaica. The open kitchen concept allows guests to hear and witness the chefs prepare dishes that continually fly out of the kitchen.
The Reggae Roast experience is heightened by the beats of DJ Ms Rio Jay, perfectly aligning with the theme and transporting me back to Sundays in the Alexander household. The music, coupled with the chatter from diners, creates a vibrant yet laid-back atmosphere.
The Reggae Roast experience at Ting Irie transcends mere dining, combining a fusion of flavours and melodies. With DJs ringing in reggae and dancehall beats, it creates a lively atmosphere where diners can immerse themselves in the Jamaican spirit and celebrate the weekend festivities.
