Brunches to Try this Summer

Are you the friend in your group always on the lookout for the next weekend brunch spot? Well, if you’re hunting for that perfect Saturday vibe – you know, the one with a leisurely start, guaranteed wriggle to the beat in your seat, and a spread of delicious Japanese dishes – then Sumosan at the heart of Downtown Dubai is your go-to spot. Trust me, it’s the ultimate brunch experience you’ve been seeking

Here’s the Low-Down

Sumosan is an award-winning contemporary Japanese restaurant group with a loved global presence. With eight locations worldwide, it stands as a culinary powerhouse. Situated in the elegant Dubai EDITION Hotel in Downtown, Sumosan is renowned for its heartfelt dedication to hospitality, attracting a devoted clientele.

So, our squad’s brunch plans made it beyond the group chat and we were all set for the vibes. Saturdays from 3 PM to 7 PM at Sumosan, prepare for a tune-after-tune banger with a top tier brunch menu.

Warm greetings from the staff instantly made us feel at home. The resident DJs DJ B Luv and DJ Moky were spinning all of our favourite RnB and afro-beat classics. The ambiance was inviting, with stylish décor with contemporary artwork, spacious and vibrant, it was the perfect sassy backdrop for sipping cocktails whilst taking it all in.

Before indulging in the feast, we explored Sumosan’s brunch packages, which catered to every taste, which left us with the biggest decision of the day, choosing our package. Sumosan offers three package options: the non-alcoholic package, priced at AED 420, includes a selection of soft drinks, juices, and an enticing array of mocktails. The house package, available at AED 520, proved to be a great deal, encompassing all of the aforementioned beverages plus handcrafted cocktails like the Sakerinha and Geisha Spritz, along with premium house spirits—a more extensive house package than usual. And for those seeking a more luxurious experience, there’s the premium package at AED 620, boasting an extensive selection of beverages, including a curated cocktail menu featuring classics such as the Negroni and Cosmopolitan, as well as prosecco.

Let’s Talk About the Food

Spearheaded by Executive Chef Bubker Belkhit, our expectations were high for foodies like us. We kicked off with sharing starters, including the Mixed Baby Leaf Salad with French Beans and Chef Buba’s Secret Sesame Dressing, Sea Bass Ceviche with Red Jalapeno Sauce and Nori Chips, and Chicken Tatsuta with Yuzu Kosho Tartar Sauce. Guests can then delve into a selection of Maki Rolls before indulging in sumptuous sharing main courses such as the Vegetable Tempura Selection, Black Angus Fillet with Yakiniku Sauce, and Japanese Home-Baked Milk Bread Chicken Fillet Sando and Fries with Truffle Sauce. All dishes were sharing platters and Black Angus Fillet was a firm favourite on our table.

For those seeking an added treat, guests can elevate their brunch experience with signature dishes such as the 24-hour Miso Marinated Black Cod or the Japanese Home-Baked Milk Bread Wagyu Fillet Sando and Fries with Truffle Sauce, available for an additional AED 100 each. Side dishes such as Ohitashi-Bok Choy with Cashew Sauce and Vegetable Fried Rice complement the main courses, while a selection of desserts provides the perfect sweet ending to the brunch experience. I can confidently confirm,  Executive Chef Bubker Belkhit and team knocked this one out of the park – the food was outstanding.

The Verdict

As the evening wrapped up, we were reluctant to leave. Sumosan brunch offers more than just a dining experience, it’s a journey through modern Japanese cuisine. With exceptional food and vibrant energy, it’s a must-visit for a brunch that ticks all of the boxes. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.
